- 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 58:7:
- أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۖ مَا يَكُونُ مِنْ نَجْوَىٰ ثَلَاثَةٍ إِلَّا هُوَ رَابِعُهُمْ وَلَا خَمْسَةٍ إِلَّا هُوَ سَادِسُهُمْ […]
- ʔalam tara ʔanna l-laha yaʕlamu mā fī s-samāwāti wamā fī l-ʔarḍi mā yakūnu min najwā ṯalāṯatin ʔillā huwa rābiʕuhum walā ḵamsatin ʔillā huwa sādisuhum […]
- (please add an English translation of this quotation)
Usage notes
[edit]- Excepting "one" and "two", all the cardinal numbers may precede or succeed the modified noun or substantive. Prepositive use is more usual, however.
- The cardinal numbers "three" to "nine" exhibit polarity: they differ in gender from the modified noun or substantive. Polarity is also possible even when the number is postposed.
