- jādaka l-ḡayṯu ʔiḏā l-ḡayṯu hamā – yā zamāna l-waṣli bi-l-ʔandalusi – lam yakun waṣluka ʔillā ḥuluman – fī l-karā ʔaw ḵulsata l-muḵtalisi
- the rain would befit you if the rain fell – oh the time of reunion in Andalusia – your reunion wasn't but a dream – in the sleep or a surreptitious passing (= something that passes quickly)
