Etymology

Apparently a variant of the much more commonplace حَظَرَ (ḥaẓara, to bar).

حَظَلَ (ḥaẓala) I (non-past يَحْظُلُ (yaḥẓulu), verbal noun حَظْل (ḥaẓl) or حِظْلَان (ḥiẓlān) or حَظَلَان (ḥaẓalān))

  1. to restrain from moving, to prohibit walking
