Calque of Persian گَوْزِ بُویَا (gowz buyâ), جَوْزِ بُویَا (jowz buyâ), جوز بویه (jowz buye) from گوز (gowz) / جوز (jowz) + بوییدن (buyidan, to smell), originally colloquial, replacing earlier Arabic جَوْز بُوَا (jawz buwā).
