1. (historical) "possessor of the world": a laudatory title of kings.
   • c. 1011, Abu'l-Qāsim Firdawsī, “Introduction”, in شاهنامه [Book of Kings]‎^[1]:

     جهاندار محمود شاه بزرگ
     به آبشخور آرد همی میش و گرگ

     jahāndār mahmūd šāh-i buzurg
     ba ābišxwar ārad hamē mēš u gurg

     The world-lord Mahmūd, the great king
     Brings the sheep and wolf [together in peace] at the watering-place.
