Arabic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Considered a variant of ذ ي ل (ḏ-y-l), "to hang", "to be pendent", "to be excess length", "a garment that trails along the ground"; the plant sense stemming from the meaning "to drag along the ground" as the plant extends rapidly that way.
