[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀩𑀼𑀪𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀸 (bubhukkhā), from Sanskrit बुभुक्षा (bubhukṣā). Western Indo-Aryan cognates include Marwari भूख (bhūkh) / 𑅫𑅒𑅖 (bhukh), Gujarati ભૂખ (bhūkh), Malvi भूक (bhukh), Nimadi भूख (bhūkh).
