Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *bük- (to bow, curve, bend)[1]; cognate with Azerbaijani bükmək.

Verb

بوكمك (bükmek) (third-person singular aorist بوكر (büker))

  1. (transitive) to bend, crook, curve, contort, curl, to cause something to change its shape into a curve
    Synonyms: اكمك (eğmek), قیورمق (kıvırmak)
  2. (transitive) to fold, crease, pleat, to bend any thin material over so that it comes in contact with itself
    Synonyms: قاتلامق (katlamak), قیرمق (kırmak)
  3. (transitive) to twist, wring, screw, to turn the ends of something in opposite directions, often using force
    Synonym: بورمق (burmak)
  4. (transitive) to spin, to create yarn or thread by twisting fibers together, traditionally by hand spinning
    Synonym: اكیرمك (eğirmek)
