[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *bilegü (“hone, whetstone”), a development of *bile- (“to sharpen”), from which بیلهمك (bilemek, “to sharpen, hone”); cognate with Azerbaijani bülöv and Turkmen bilew.
