Etymology

From بالطه (balta, “axe, hatchet”) +‎ ـلامق (-lamak, suffix forming infinitives from nouns or adjectives).

1. (transitive) to axe, to fell or chop with an axe or hatchet
2. (figuratively) to wreck, scupper, ruin, cause damage to something
3. (figuratively) to sabotage, undermine, weaken or work against
