[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *oglak (“kid, yeanling”), equivalent to اوغل (oğul, “son”) + ـاق (-ak, noun and adjective diminutive suffix); cognate with Kazakh лақ (laq), Kyrgyz улак (ulak), Kumyk улакъ (ulaq), Southern Altai улак (ulak), Uyghur ئوغلاق (oghlaq) and Uzbek uloq.
