Etymology

From Common Turkic *ugur (“to meet; to intend; occasion, reason, time”) + *-a (“verb-forming suffix”).

Verb

اوغرامق • (oğramak or uğramak) (with dative)

1. to stop by, swing by, encounter in passing
2. to fall victim to, to suffer
   • 1927 October, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Nutuk‎^[1], page 341:

     بو دشمن قارشیسنده بولنان ۲۳ نجی فرقه و ملی قوتلرمز ، چوق ضایعاته و ضعفه اوغرادی!

     Bu duşman karşısında bulunan 23'ncü firka ve millî kuvvetlerimiz çok zayiata ve zaafa uğradı!
