Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ekši- (to become sour, acid), the same root of اكشیمك (ekşimek, to become acid). Cognate with Azerbaijani əkşi, Chuvash йӗксӳ (jĕksü) and Karakhanid اَكْشِكْ (ekşig).
