[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ekši- (“to become sour, acid”), the same root of اكشیمك (ekşimek, “to become acid”). Cognate with Azerbaijani əkşi, Chuvash йӗксӳ (jĕksü) and Karakhanid اَكْشِكْ (ekşig).
