[edit]Inherited from Common Turkic *īŕte- (“to seek, search”). Doublet of ارتاماك (irtēmēk, “to seek, pursue”).
Cognate with Khalaj hişəmək, Turkish istemek (“to want”) and Bashkir эҙләү (eźləw).
