Etymology
[edit]Probably through Classical Syriac ܐܘܢܩܝܐ (ʾūnqīyā) from Ancient Greek οὐγγία (oungía), οὐγκία (ounkía), from Latin uncia (“ounce, twelfth part”), from ūnus (“one”).
