From Classical Syriac ܐܕܪ (ʾāḏār), ultimately from Akkadian 𒌚𒊺 (addāru). Cognate with Hebrew אֲדָר (ădar, Aḏar, the twelfth month of the Hebrew lunisolar calendar).
