Etymology

Cognate with Arabic سَبَّحَ (sabbaḥa, “to praise, to glorify”). Possibly related to Egyptian sbḥ (“to cry out, to scream”).

1. to praise (a person, an organization, an action, etc.)
2. (Biblical Hebrew, poetic) to soothe
