From the root ס־י־ע . Cognate with Arabic شيعة (šīʕa, “party, faction”).

סִיעָה • (si'á) f (plural indefinite סִיעוֹת, singular construct סִיעַת־, plural construct סִיעוֹת־)

1. A group of people who share the same behavior, ideas, or intentions.
2. A faction, a parliamentary group, especially within the Knesset.
