נאָל
Appearance
Yiddish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Most likely from Middle High German āle, Old High German āla, from Proto-West Germanic *ālu, from Proto-Germanic *ēlō, with the initial ⟨נ⟩ possibly the result of rebracketing (i.e. אַן אָל (an ol) => אַ נאָל (a nol)). Compare German Ahle, and English newt for the rebracketing phenomenon.
Noun
[edit]נאָל • (nol) f, plural נאָלן (noln)
