[edit]From Aramaic חַסָּא (khassaʾ). Compare likely cognates Arabic خَسّ (ḵass) and Maltese ħassa, both with the same meaning.

- lettuce (an edible plant, Lactuca sativa and its close relatives, having a head of green and/or purple leaves)
