חַטָּאת (khatátf

  1. A sin.
    • Tanach, Genesis 18:20, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:
      זַעֲקַת סְדֹם וַעֲמֹרָה כִּי רָבָּה וְחַטָּאתָם כִּי כָבְדָה מְאֹד
      Verily, the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and, verily, their sin is exceeding grievous.
  2. A sin offering.
    • Tanach, Exodus 29:14, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:
      וְאֶת בְּשַׂר הַפָּר וְאֶת עֹרוֹ וְאֶת פִּרְשׁוֹ תִּשְׂרֹף בָּאֵשׁ מִחוּץ לַמַּחֲנֶה חַטָּאת הוּא
      But the flesh of the bullock, and its skin, and its dung, shalt thou burn with fire without the camp; it is a sin-offering.
