- Third-person masculine singular vav-consecutive imperfect (hence past tense) of הוֹשִׁיעַ (hoshía), with a third-person feminine plural pronoun suffixed as direct object.
- Tanach, Exodus 2:17, with translation of the King James Version:
- וַיָּבֹאוּ הָֽרֹעִים וַיְגָרְשׁוּם וַיָּקָם מֹשֶׁה וַיּוֹשִׁעָן
- vayavóu haroím vaygar'shúm vayákom moshé vayoshián
- And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them
