Inherited from Classical Latin ārdeō, ārdēre (“to burn”), from Proto-Italic *āzidēō, derived from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eHs- (“to be dry; to burn”).

     And they built on the heights of the abomination, which [is] in the valley of Ben Hinnom, in order to burn their sons and their daughters in fire, which I did not command, and never came to my mind.

     /Per ciò, cusì disse Dumedeo Deo: "Ecco lu fururo mio e la ira mea, culata a lu luco questo: supera lu omo, e superah la bestia, e supera lu arbelo, e lu canpo, e lu frutto de la terra; e arderà, e nun se stuzzarà."/

     Therefore, thus said the Lord God: "Behold, my fury and my rage, poured on this place: upon the man, and upon the beast, and upon the tree, and the field, and the fruit of the land; and it will burn, and it will not be extinguished."
