[edit]Etymology
[edit]Uncertain word of uncertain origin. Ačaṙean leaves the origin open. According to J̌ahukyan, փիճխ (pʻičx) obviously looks like a Georgian word, but Georgian ფიჩხი (pičxi, “brushwood”) does not fit with its meaning and ფიჭვი (pič̣vi, “pine”) has been reflected in Armenian as փիճի (pʻiči).
Pronunciation
[edit]- (Eastern Armenian) IPA(key): /pʰit͡ʃχ/, [pʰit͡ʃχ]
- (Western Armenian) IPA(key): /pid͡ʒχ/, [pʰid͡ʒχ]
Noun
[edit]փիճխ • (pʻičx)
- goldthread (Coptis Salisb.)
Usage notes
[edit]Ališan does not identify the plant exactly. Łazaryan identifies it with the “goldthread”.
