Etymology

[edit]

Uncertain word of uncertain origin. Ačaṙean leaves the origin open. According to J̌ahukyan, փիճխ (pʻičx) obviously looks like a Georgian word, but Georgian ფიჩხი (pičxi, brushwood) does not fit with its meaning and ფიჭვი (pič̣vi, pine) has been reflected in Armenian as փիճի (pʻiči).

Pronunciation

[edit]

Noun

[edit]

փիճխ (pʻičx)

  1. goldthread (Coptis Salisb.)

Usage notes

[edit]

Ališan does not identify the plant exactly. Łazaryan identifies it with the “goldthread”.
