ցանեմ

Old Armenian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

The origin is uncertain.

Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *skn̥-, the zero-grade of *sken-, extended from *sek- (to cut, cut off) with a close formal cognate in Lithuanian skìnti.[1] If ցին (cʻin, feces inside animal entrails; dried manure that is spread under farm animals) is related, it would be derived regularly from the full grade *sken-.
