[edit]An Iranian borrowing; compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (twhtn', twc- /tōxtan, tōz-/, “to atone, expiate”), Persian توختن (tuxtan, “to pay a debt”). Doublet of տուգան (tugan).
