Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *h₃moyǵʰos or *h₃meyǵʰos, from *h₃meyǵʰ- (urinate). A borrowing from the Iranian cognate has also been suggested: compare Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬉𐬰𐬀 (maēza, urine) and Northern Kurdish mîz (urine).
