[edit]Ačaṙyan leaves the origin of the word open. According to J̌ahukyan, borrowed from an unknown Iranian source, probably descended from Proto-Indo-European *kʷer- (“a kind of dish or pot”); compare Sanskrit चरु (carú-, “kinde of vessel, pot”). See Pokorny for this root.
