Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *ǵoy-ǵar-n-, reduplication of *ǵār- (voice, exclamation). Cognate with Ossetian зар (zar, song), Ancient Greek γῆρυς (gêrus, voice), Latin garrio (to chatter), Old English caru (English care).
