Etymology

[edit]

From խայտ (xayt) +‎ -ա- (-a-) +‎ *բղէտ (*błēt, speckle, spot). The *բղէտ (*błēt) is not used independently and is not attested in any other compound. Per J̌ahukyan, it may be inherited from Proto-Indo-European *bʰleyd-, whence Proto-Slavic *blědъ, Proto-West Germanic *blait.
