[edit]- թարբ (tʻarb)
Etymology
[edit]Related to Ancient Greek τάρπη (tárpē, “large wicker basket”) and with it inherited from Proto-Indo-European *tw(e)r-p- (“to grab, enclose”), from *twerH-; compare Lithuanian tverti (“to seize, form”), Russian твори́ть (tvorítʹ). Alternatively, the Armenian and Greek words are borrowed from a Mediterranean substrate source. For another possibly "Mediterranean" word from the same semantic sphere see ցանց (cʻancʻ).
Noun
[edit]թարփ • (tʻarpʻ)
- large wicker fishing-basket, creel
- framework of wooden bars, a wooden trellis-work
