[edit]- գաւտի (gawti)
Etymology
[edit]Uncertain. The original spelling is գաւտի (gawti). Olsen derives from Iranian *gaβtia, from Proto-Indo-European *gʰeh₁bʰ- (“to hold”), connecting also with the ending of պարեգաւտ (paregawt, “coat, tunic”),[1][2] but this root is not attested in Iranian. J̌ahukyan compares to Old Georgian ღუედი (ɣuedi).[3]
