Etymology

[edit]

From Arabic بَزَرْقَطُونَا (bazarqaṭūnā). Tʻargmanutʻiwn dełocʻ has the manuscript variant բզրուկ (bzruk), which has been treated as a separate formation from Arabic بِزْر (bizr, seed) and the suffix -ուկ (-uk), however this form is probably spurious; notwithstanding, բզրուկ (bzruk) has been learnedly adopted in the modern language as the designation for Arenaria.
