Arabic

Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Aramaic בִּזְרָא (bizrā) / ܒܙܪܐ (bazrā, seed), from בַר זַרְעָא / ܒܪ ܙܪܥܐ (bar zarʿāʾ, seed), from בַר / ܒܪ (bar, son of) + זַרְעָא / ܙܪܥܐ (zarʿāʾ, a seed).
The vocalization with /i/ is deemed more classical in Arabic.
