[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]- Տուրք (Turkʻ)
Etymology
[edit]The origin is uncertain. Possibly a remnant of the Anatolian storm god, from Proto-Anatolian *tr̥Hʷánts. Alternatively, identical with Old Armenian տուրք (turkʻ, “gift”).
Known with the epithet Անգեղեայ (Angełeay), possibly from անգեղ (angeł, “ugly, deformed”) or անգղ (angł, “vulture”). Note also Ancient Greek τόργος (tórgos, “vulture”).
Proper noun
