Yakut

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Turkic *čepürek (rag, piece of cloth).[1] See Bashkir сепрәк (seprək) for more cognates.

Initial /s-/ was often debuccalized, and later dropped altogether, in an earlier stage of Yakut, and here we also see metathesis (/pr/ → /rb/). Such metathesis is common worldwide, for example OrpahOprah.

Noun

[edit]

өрбөх (örböq)

  1. rag
    Synonym: соттор (sottor, towel)
