Yakut
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Turkic *čepürek (“rag, piece of cloth”).[1] See Bashkir сепрәк (seprək) for more cognates.
Initial /s-/ was often debuccalized, and later dropped altogether, in an earlier stage of Yakut, and here we also see metathesis (/pr/ → /rb/). Such metathesis is common worldwide, for example Orpah → Oprah.
Noun
[edit]өрбөх • (örböq)
