Borrowed from Classical Mongolian ᠯᠤᠤ (luu, dragon), from Old Turkic 𐰠𐰇 (l²ü /⁠lü⁠/) which in turn is ultimately from Chinese (lóng). Cognate with Mongolian луу (luu), Kyrgyz үлүл (ülül).
