From Persian کوتک (kōtak), from Classical Persian کوتنگ (kōtang), from Proto-Iranian *kawdankah (hammer), from Proto-Indo-European *kewh₂- (to hit). Related to Khwarezmian [script needed] (ckwndyk, hammer).
