Etymology

By surface analysis, є (je) or єст (jest) +‎ -ство (-stvo), ultimately a calque of Ancient Greek οὐσία (ousía). Cognates include Old Church Slavonic ество (estvo) and Ukrainian єство́ (jestvó).

Ultimately a calque of Ancient Greek οὐσία (ousía). Either a contraction of earlier Old Ruthenian естество (estestvo) or Old Church Slavonic естество (estestvo), compare Old Church Slavonic ество (estvo), or most likely constructed later analogously to these forms: є (je) +‎ -ство (-stvo).
