юнец
Appearance
Bulgarian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Slavic *junь̀cь (“youth”). It is possible for the accent to shift from the second to the first syllable, for reasons unexplained.
Cognate with Russian юне́ц (junéc).

Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]юне́ц or ю́нец • (junéc or júnec) m (feminine юни́ца)
Usage notes
[edit]Sources disagree on which syllable should be stressed: Rečnik na bǎlgarskija ezik maintains it be the first, whereas Bǎlgarski tǎlkoven rečnik posits the second, which also appears to accord with the Proto-Slavic etymon *junь̀cь.
Declension
[edit]- Although in the singular forms, either the first or second syllable may be stressed, in the (non-count) plural, it is always the second.
