From Proto-Turkic *ẹri- (id.). Cognate with Azerbaijani ərimək, Kazakh еру (eru), Kyrgyz эрүү (erüü), Yakut ир (ir, to melt), Turkmen eremek, Tuvan эриир (eriir), Uzbek erimoq.
