[edit]From *ïšanč ~ *išenč (“trust, confidence, hope”), from Proto-Turkic *ïĺan-~*iĺen- (“to believe, trust”).
Cognate with Tatar ышаныч (ışanıç, “trust, confidence; hope”), Karachay-Balkar ышанч (ışanç, “hope, reliance”), Uzbek ishonch (“trust, confidence; hope”); Uyghur ишәнч (ishench, “hope, reliance”), Southern Altai ижениш (iženiš, “hope, reliance, gullibility”), Khakas ізеніс (ìzenìs, “hope, reliance, gullibility”).
