Etymology

Contains щӏы (śʼə, earth, ground) as the first element. Cognate with Adyghe чӏырыкӏу (ĉʼərəkʷʼu).

Note also Svan ჭაგუ̂ (č̣agû), Mingrelian ჭუაქი (č̣uaki), which likely derive from this word also.
