[edit]From Classical Mongolian ᠬᠥ᠋ᠪᠡᠭᠦᠨ (köbegün), from Middle Mongol ᠺᠥ᠋ᠪᠡᠺᠦᠨ᠌ (köbekün), from Proto-Mongolic *köbexün (“child; son”). Cognate with Buryat хүбүүн (xübüün), Kalmyk көвүн (kövün), etc. Doublet of хөвгүүн (xövgüün).
