Inherited from Bulgar حرح (xırıx, forty),[1] itself inherited from Proto-Turkic *kïrk (forty).[2][3]

Cognate with Khalaj qırq, Turkish kırk, Uzbek qirq and Bashkir ҡырҡ (qırq).
