[edit]Inherited from Old Ruthenian худоба (xudoba), from Old East Slavic худоба (xudoba), from Proto-Slavic *xudoba (“leanness, thinness”), from *xudъ + *-oba. By surface analysis, худи́й (xudýj, “thin, skinny”) + -оба (-oba). The use of the word to denote livestock may be attributable to taboo avoidance.[1]
