[edit]From [Early] Proto-Mordvinic *turta + *-v~*-ŋ (lative case suffix). Likely borrowed from Proto-Baltic *turta-, whence Latvian turta (“fortune, property”), Lithuanian turtas (“wealth, property”).[1]
