тисяч
Appearance
Pannonian Rusyn
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]- тисяча f (tisjača)
Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Carpathian Rusyn ты́сяч (tŷ́sjač), from Proto-Slavic *tysęti. Displaced Old Slovak tisíc.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]тисяч (tisjač) m inan (related adjective тисячни or тисячити)
Usage notes
[edit]- The numbers 1100, 1200, up to 1900 are usually expressed with тисяч (tisjač) followed by the appropriate hundred-number, such as тисяч сто (tisjač sto, literally “thousand hundred”) or тисяч тристо (tisjač tristo, literally “thousand three hundred”), however in older literature the now-obsolete forms єденацсто (jedenacsto, literally “eleven hundred”), дванацсто (dvanacsto, literally “twelve hundred”), … , дзеветнацсто (dzevetnacsto, literally “nineteen hundred”) may be encountered.
- With the exception of the singular nominative and accusative forms, тисяч (tisjač) follows the declension of тисяча (tisjača).
- When used as the numeral 1000 and quantifying a noun in the plural, тисяч (tisjač) is not declined at all. For instance, the genitive form of тисяч динари (tisjač dinari, “one thousand dinars”) would be тисяч динарох (tisjač dinarox) rather than *тисячи динарох (*tisjači dinarox). For numerals 2000, 3000 and onward, it declines as normal in the plural, e.g. двома тисячами (dvoma tisjačami).
