Etymology

From Proto-Mordvinic *tevə~*ťevə, from Proto-Finno-Permic [Finno-Volgaic] *tewe, whence Finnish työ, Veps , Livonian tīe.

Can be reanalyzed as derivative from теемс (ťejems) with (-v) suffix, mostly unproductive.
