[edit]From Proto-Mordvinic *säŕgə, inherited from Proto-Finno-Ugric *särke, cognate to Finnish särki, Estonian särg (“roach”), possibly also to Komi-Zyrian чери (ćeri) and Udmurt чориг (ćorig, “fish”).
